The testing under the No Child Left Behind program has highlighted serious underachievement in some of our schools. However, one consequence of the program can be a lowering of school performance due to the fact that many of the most motivated families will leave. If this continues, such schools could eventually be closed. This could result in the undermining of the concept of the neighborhood school. We need to have a good school in every neighborhood of San Diego if we really want to have the direct parent involvement that is so crucial for children's success. Read more »
